Johanna Cordasco is an artist and educator based in Philadelphia, PA, working as a Studio Logistics Technician at JPS. She is a member of the curatorial artist collective Grizzly Grizzly and a participant in the 2026 cohort of Pollinator, a virtual residency focused on peer coaching.
Cordasco holds a BFA from the Mason Gross School of the Arts with a concentration in Sculpture and minors in Art History and Psychology. She was selected to participate in Yale Norfolk (2021), received the Scott Cagenello Memorial Prize (2022), was a Studio Assistant at Penland School of Craft (2023), and a resident artist at Sable Project (2025). In her artistic practice, Cordasco applies traditional craft techniques to found objects, resulting in sculptural forms and collages. Cordasco draws inspiration from her role at work, which involves caring for the facilities and machines through preventative maintenance and repairs in response to issues or damage. Mending and repair are important anchors in her work, whether through darning clothing, applying textile mending techniques to three-dimensional objects, or using the same tools and materials she relies on to maintain machinery, to create art pieces that deliberately lack a specific, practical function. Cordasco investigates the effects of care in objects, people, and our environment. She considers themes of labor, craft, purpose, value, repetition, ecosystems, use, and reuse when creating her pieces. |
