Post Card Quilt Pattern Draft

Postcard Quilt, 2025 4 ft x 2.6 ft.  64 postcards, black, blue, grey, and red embroidery and sashiko thread.

Each of these 64 postcards is addressed to Liberty Cycle, a local bicycle shop owned and operated by the Cordasco family.

The artist’s father, Greg Cordasco, opened the shop in 1992. During its 25+ years of operation, community members sent postcards to the shop, which Greg then adhered to the ceiling in a designated hallway with a staple gun or sticky tack.

After his passing and the shops' closing, the artist saved the conglomeration of cards, scanned each one, and then cut and mended the originals into a quilt pattern.

This piece will be installed as eight columns, suspended in air with a fishing line. Each column is 8 postcards tall. The movement of people in the space triggers a kinetic quality in the piece. It is to be viewed in the round. If viewers look closely, they can read fragments of postcards, and if they step back, they can see a larger pattern.

This past summer I worked at Ox- Bow School of the Art and Artists' Residency as the Maintenance Assistant. I got to work with some incredible artists and learn more technical skills. It was a special opportunity to live in a community surrounded by constant creation and connection. I'll be returning this summer to teach an Art on the Meadow Class on macrame!

In March and April of 2023, I had the pleasure of working as a Studio Assistant to Celia Pym for her class about visible mending. She recently released a book titled, On Mending, which I absolutely love. The textile facilities at Penland are such a treat to experience. They have excellent natural light, looms, sewing tables, a dye lab, and all the tools you could dream of! I hope to return in some capacity soon.

I'm proud to announce that I have completed a 6 month term as an AmeriCorps crew member through the American Conservation Experience. It has been a wonderful time of growth and adventure, and I am grateful for those who have helped me along the way! I would not have been able to explore conservation and the Southwest in the way that I did without the support of Rutgers University through the Scott Cagenello Memorial Prize. Linked here is an article by Mike Lucas about my experiences blending art, nature, and community work.

Additionally, I am thrilled to say that I have accepted a studio assistant position at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. I will be working alongside Celia Pym as she teaches a two-month concentration in mending. I am eager to start this role and am looking forward to this opportunity to stay active in the art world.

These color film photographs are from the South Kaibab trail at the Grand Canyon.

Art Direction on Haolun Xu's Film, Long Beach

I had the privilege of working with Haolun Xu on his film, Long Beach. As art director, I selected props for each scene, made sure there was continuity between objects seen in each shot, reset the props before each take, prepped the locations for each scene, and took some BTS photographs of the whole production as it happened. The crew filmed the footage in April 2022, which was a wonderful process. I was able to translate the skills I learned in my sculpture concentration into the world of film and learned a great deal along the way.
