Fractals and Units (July 2021 - October 2021)
Fractals (painted steel, yarn) June 2021, 2.5 ft. x 2.5 ft. x 6 ft. Units, (24 painted aluminum frames assorted in stacked cubes, zip ties) June 2021, 6ft. X 2.5 ft. X 2.5 ft. Mason Gross School of Art and Design, Sculpture 3A, Advanced Professor: Patrick Strzelec Artists: Johanna Cordasco, Edward Ge, Emily Graf, Jon Lewis, Chuang Liu, Giancarlo Venturini This exhibition comments on the contrast of organized structures with disarray. The collective experience with covid has brought attention to the ways in which society organizes structures in physical and metaphorical ways. Fractals does not rely on the grid system in the way that Units does. They share some of the same colors to connect the pieces together, but use opposing shapes in their setups. The artists worked on the pieces collaboratively by visiting the sculptures at different times throughout the month of June. The process of working on the piece at different times but at the same place required communication outside of the direct workspace. Everyone completed their roles with the sculptures, and then communicated virtually to update the group. The ways in which the artists worked directly connects to the concept of bringing organization to the disorganized.

We want to give students a chance to show their work despite the pandemic, and also gain some experience with curatorial projects while exploring new formats for sharing work. Isabel made the site (thisisnottheend.cargo.site) ,which goes live on January 1, 2021. I am making the zine that will be sent out to the participating artists in printed form. The participating artists are listed below, on the website, and on our instagram (@thisisnotthend_ex).
I am excited to say that Patchwork the zine has included my sculpture, Nest. It can be found on Instagram as @patchwork_thezine by @kezaruranga. Below is the link to the online zine. The contents include work by a multitude of artists working and creating in quarantine.
